Monty Python and the Holy Grail was funded by Rock Bands?

I, like most guys my age, LOVE “Monty Python and the Holy Grail.”  Here’re some interesting facts you might not have known!

There were six official members of Monty Python.  Eric Idle, John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Terry Jones, Graham Chapman, and Michael Palin.

2.  Their show, “Monty Python’s Flying Circus” only ran for 47 episodes.  John Cleese quit after season three, and four was a half-season.

3.  Over a quarter of the budget for the movie “Monty Python and the Holy Grail” came from two rock bands:  Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin.  Eric Idle recently revealed the exact amounts.  Pink Floyd put up 21,000 pounds, and Led Zeppelin, threw in 32,000 pounds.  The total budget was only 175,000 pounds, and they couldn’t afford horses.  That’s why they came up with the gag where they used coconuts instead.

4.  “Spamalot” won the Tony Award for Best Musical.  It won three Tonys, including Best Musical.  It’s based on “Monty Python and the Holy Grail”.

5.  Where did the wacky name come from?  The BBC made them include “Flying Circus” in the name, and wanted to call it “John Cleese’s Flying Circus,” because he was famous.  But John said no.  So the cast started brainstorming ridiculous men’s names, and landed on Monty Python.
