The entire city of Natchitoches is celebrating all things Steel Magnolias this weekend with their Blush and Bashful Weekend. The movie first premiered in theaters 30 years ago.  Can you believe that?

Blush and Bashful kicked off yesterday with an armadillo groom’s cake baking contest. The original armadillo cake baker and baker of the wedding cake used for Shelby’s wedding was actually one of the judges.

Hundreds of people from sea-to-sea across the United States  will enjoy a Red Carpet Premiere of Steel Magnolias at Parkway Cinema Friday night (tonight)  where the movie originally premiered back  in 1989.

While the premiere is sold out, tickets for a tour of all the sites where the movie was filmed are still available. There will also be a re-enactment of Shelby’s wedding at the Steel Magnolias house.
