An Evans woman who worked at a medical clinic in Vernon Parish is accused of selling medical excuses to high school students so they could get out of class. Though she is probably a hero on Tick-Tock, that is still against the law. Contrary to whatever your kids’ spam accounts might say.
Belinda Gail Fondren, 52, was arrested on a count of filing or maintaining false public records. Bond was set at $15,000.
Fondren was selling the excuses for $20 each (evidently crime does pay…20 dollars), according to Vernon Parish Sheriff Sam Craft. It was common knowledge among the students at Evans High School that the excuses were available for purchase. Fondren’s daughter attends the school, and she probably witnessed the kids build a secret shrine to her mom somewhere in the school. I’m guessing.
Two students received excuses on 14 occasions, Craft said. Because having 50 students take one day every once in a while would have been far too clever, less obvious, and less likely to be traced. I said that.
Fondren worked in a clerical position at the clinic, Craft said. So I imagine there’s an opening for someone honest.
