A Shreveport institution on Line Avenue that has been in business since 1954 is closing its doors. Kings Gifts, for years known as Kings Hardware, is calling it quits at the end of this year. The family-owned business has tried to make a go of it under the current occupants for the last ten years, but consumer trends and big box stores providing hardware at lower prices have made it more difficult to survive. Elizabeth and Nick McElhatten have done the best they can, and in early 2018 the business moved toward gifts and less toward hardware. You should go there for Christmas and pick up a gift for someone. They have wonderful products, including LSU gear. Then thank them for the memories of a great institution that has served Shreveport for 65 years.
